SLM - 521- Elective #
3
Games
online
6/02/03
I was ready to go when I chose to work on this elective. Little did I know how much work, rather
than fun, this would be. I started
off on http://games.yahoo.com/ The
first time that I tried to connect I was unable to complete the
registration. So I moved onto the
next link which was (http://www.mpogd.com/games/board/index.asp)
This site was too confusing and seemed like a lot of steps to register and
begin. I also noted that many of
the games were ones that I had never heard of before. This was a great deterrent to my
playing.
I moved on next to (http://www.vogclub.com/) Here I was
able to register and started to play some games. I didn’t understand and didn’t like the
games so I continued on. I had
heard from someone to try (www.wheeloffortune.com) so I decided to
give that a try. Unfortunately I had problems downloading the shockwave
system. At this time I was getting
very frustrated but decided to try one more place. Using a search engine I found the site,
(www.itsyourturn.com). I registered and started looking for a
game to play. Again the games where
either to confusing or too hard to play.
But the major problem was the time that I wasted waiting for another
opponent to join the game. I
decided to stop searching and to try again the next day
The next day I was much more productive. I retried (http://games.yahoo.com) and was able to
join and download the software needed to play. I began by playing a card game,
hearts. This site was much faster
at getting opponents to join. I
played 3 games of hearts and was not bad. I won 2 out of the 3 games. I decided to try another game and tried
a game called Noah’s Ark. This game
has you matching 2 animals and trying to get them in the ark before the flood
takes over. I loved it. I played this game so long that I had to
quit because my arm was going numb.
The adrenaline that was running through my body in order to create pairs
of animals before the water took over was amazing!
Before signing off of (http://games.yahoo.com) I decided to
try my hand at one more game. I
choose to play Bingo. I was not
impressed. The game was so
slow. It took 10 seconds each time
for a new ball to come up. This was
definitely not fast paced enough for me.
I decided to come back another time and retry my hand at Noah’s
Ark.
After completing this activity I started wondering what type of people have so much time to play on the computer. Don’t they have lives, husbands, children, and jobs? Is life so boring for some people that their only communication with another person is through Internet gaming? I see Internet gaming as an addition and hopefully something that can be controlled and does not become out of hand for some people. I am glad that my first experience with online gaming did not go so well. I will not be an easy candidate for this addiction.
